Claypotts Castle

Claypotts Castle

Claypotts Castle is a late medieval castle constructed in 1588, and is one of the best-preserved examples of a 16th-century Z-plan tower house in Scotland. It was built for the Strachan family, although changed hands numerous times during its history.

It is maintained as an Ancient Monument by Historic Scotland. Claypotts Castle is free to visit and open year-round.

It is reputedly haunted by the apparition of a Woman in White, who has been sighted looking from one of the upper windows. According to Stewart, she only appears on 29th May.
